00:02 - The Milwaukee Brewers,
00:04 champions in the National League Central,
00:05 the three seed in the NL postseason,
00:08 taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks,
00:10 the D-backs into the National League playoffs
00:12 for the first time since 2017.
00:15 Donny, we touched on it at the top of the show,
00:17 and I think it is incredibly significant
00:20 for this opening round series
00:21 and maybe all of the October hopes of Milwaukee.
00:25 Brandon Woodruff, who had come back
00:27 in the final few months of this regular season
00:29 after missing a good majority of the regular season
00:32 for Milwaukee with an injury,
00:34 is set to miss at least this series
00:37 with a right shoulder injury.
00:39 He might not be out there,
00:40 depending on how far the Brew crew goes in this postseason.
00:43 How impactful is that, Donny,
00:45 for your outlook on Milwaukee?
00:47 - It's impactful if it turns out, Ben,
00:51 that he can't come back in the postseason.
00:53 Impactful for the series, maybe not.
00:54 Why? Because you're looking for your top three pitchers.
00:57 Now, granted, he is one of those top three pitchers,
00:59 but they still do have two really good pitchers
01:01 to replace him here.
01:02 And also keep in mind, some of those scenarios
01:04 that you try to set up and say,
01:05 okay, let's have our rested pitchers.
01:07 If you were Arizona, what was your optimum scenario?
01:10 Game number one, you're gonna throw Zach Allen.
01:12 Game number two, you're gonna throw Merrill Kelly.
01:13 Fat is on the mound today.
01:14 He hasn't been all that bad,
01:16 but as we know, he's not one of those frontline pitchers.
01:18 If you had a perfect scenario,
01:20 would Arizona be throwing him tonight?
01:21 Absolutely not here.
01:23 In the first round here,
01:24 I do think the Milwaukee Brewers can get away with this,
01:27 I should say.
01:28 If they get one or two more games,
01:29 you're gonna need that extended pitching staff,
01:31 and he would give them that boost.
01:32 But anytime you're talking about,
01:33 I can't pitch this week here,
01:35 how do we expect him to come back next week
01:37 without any bullpen sessions
01:38 and just reappear on the mound?
01:40 Could this turn into one of those scenarios
01:41 that we've seen in the past
01:42 where some of these pitchers just can't go,
01:44 but hey, Skip, I can give you an inning in the sixth
01:46 if you need me to go out there.
01:47 I got 25 pitches for you.
01:49 Maybe it turns out there,
01:50 but that's a devastating blow long-term
01:52 in the playoffs if he's going to be out.
