Filipina gymnast, magiging kinatawan ng bansa sa Olympics

00:00 In the first chance since 1964, a Filipino gymnast will be the national hero in the Olympics.
00:07 Let's meet her in the show "Daryl O'Clarice" of PTV Sports.
00:11 The Philippines will be added to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
00:17 This is after the Filipino-American gymnast Alea Finegan,
00:22 the fifth highest ranked eligible athlete,
00:24 won the Women's All-Around Qualification of the World's Artistic Gymnastic Championship in Sports Palace in Antwerp, Belgium.
00:31 Finegan scored 51.366 points to secure the 32nd overall place
00:37 and will be awarded one of the places for the Summer Games next year.
00:42 In an interview with the former member of the United States Gymnastics Team,
00:47 he thanked her for giving him the opportunity to flag the country on the International Gymnastics Stage.
00:53 I mean it's just like such a dream come true.
00:56 I'm just so thankful for the Philippines for giving this opportunity for me that I would never have been able to take otherwise.
01:06 And so just to be here to honoring my family in the Philippines and honoring my dad who's in heaven
01:11 and all the people who just put in so many sacrifices for me to be here.
01:16 It's really just a dream come true.
01:18 Due to this victory, Finegan is the first Filipino gymnast to be awarded the Quadrennial Meet
01:24 since Evelyn Magluyan played in the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
01:29 This was the year that Finegan was elected to move to the Philippines
01:33 and will be remembered for having won two gold and two silver medals
01:36 in his Southeast Asian Games debut last year in Vietnam.
01:40 In the Asian Gymnastics Championships this May,
01:43 he won bronze medals in his vault and balance beam for his participation in the World Championships.
01:48 Finegan will be joined by his fellow Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo
01:53 and his first ever Olympic qualifier, Paul Wolter.
