00:00 The local government association which represents councils in England and Wales
00:04 have been calling for the government to ban the sale and manufacture of single
00:09 use vapes such as Alfbaz and Los Mary by 2024. Though the government says they're
00:15 now planning it to ban them it's not yet known when this will come into effect.
00:20 Directors of Public Health in Cheshire and Merseyside's nine local council areas
00:25 have expressed their concern about the increase of the use of vapes in the
00:29 region. Health bosses are particularly concerned about the increased use of
00:34 vapes amongst children. It really doesn't look cool everyone just keeps smoking
00:39 them and it just looks really like childish yeah I'm not keen on them and
00:46 also if you're walking behind somebody that's smoking and then you just get
00:50 this woof of it's no it's not nice and I don't like it. I don't smoke myself like
00:57 I used to years ago but there's no way should be for the older people want to
01:02 pack and smoke but for the younger ones no. People originally thought it was less
01:08 bad than smoking so that's why they latched on to it and now they're sort of
01:12 realizing it's not as good as they thought it was going to be and there is
01:16 a big push to sort of cut it out the way smoking has been cut out most places you
01:20 can't vape inside the same as smoking and all that and generally I would think
01:25 it isn't encouraged by most people. As a group the directors of public health are
01:30 calling for a countrywide ban on sales of disposable vapes, additional
01:34 restrictions on advertising and marketing, a significant increase in
01:39 fines for retailers selling illicit vape products and vapes to those under the
01:44 age of 18 as well as a consultation on the licensing and regulation of them.
01:49 Councils are especially concerned by the marketing of vapes with designs and
01:53 flavors that could appeal to children in particular those with fruity flavors
01:58 and colorful child-friendly packaging. They say strict new measures to regulate
02:04 the display and marketing of vaping products in the same way as tobacco are
02:08 needed. You can see kids as young as like 10, 12 smoking them and yeah I'm not I'm
02:15 not for it to be honest and it doesn't make sense to me. Should be for older
02:20 people really, want to pack and smoke but young people know they're all they're
02:25 all doing about 14 now aren't they so and so yeah no. Especially because of the
02:29 flavors that they have sounds very much like candy and sweet and it smells nice
02:35 for them so it is unfortunate yeah. Whereas now with the vape it's more of a
02:41 how do I look, do people think I look really cool doing this on the bus or
02:47 doing this outside or doing yeah I just don't think it's if just stop it like it
02:51 just doesn't make sense to me. Local directors of public health are endorsing
02:55 the advice from England's chief medical officer. If you smoke vaping is much
03:00 safer if you don't smoke don't vape.
