00:00 Welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Pete Quinnell.
00:08 Last week's news was primarily dominated by a new batch of WWE releases, where over
00:13 20 wrestlers were fired from the company.
00:15 One of these releases was Alexis Gray, who signed with WWE in Spring this year and was
00:19 part of their Performance Center class.
00:21 Gray spoke to WrestlingNews.co and was asked if she expected layoffs to come because of
00:25 the merger.
00:26 "I personally did have that thought in the back of my mind, but because I was so new,
00:30 I kind of didn't accept that maybe I was a part of the people that were gonna get laid
00:34 off.
00:35 So when I did get the call, it was baffling to me, because I felt like things were finally
00:39 making sense in the company.
00:41 I felt like I understood what they were requesting of us to just be cut off."
00:45 She went on to say that she won't stop wrestling because of this, so she's actively looking
00:48 for a wrestling school to continue her journey.
00:51 Best of luck, Alexis Gray.
00:52 Someone who's been struggling with a severe lack of screen time as of late is Johnny Gargano,
00:57 who hasn't been seen on TV in bloody ages.
01:00 He returned at a house show recently and lost to a mask, so you know, it's going great.
01:04 There were at one point hints of a DIY reunion on TV with Tommaso Ciampa, but those have
01:09 quietly gone away too.
01:11 Ryan Satin was in attendance for last night's episode of Raw, and he claimed on X that during
01:15 the commercial break, a kid sat next to him got Ciampa to come over, where the kid told
01:19 him to get DIY going again.
01:21 To which he claims Ciampa replied, "I'm trying."
01:23 If this is true, there appears to be somewhat of a back and forth here.
01:26 And then the question becomes, if Ciampa's pitch story isn't being shut down by Triple
01:30 H, then is it being shut down by Vince McMahon?
01:32 Who knows, maybe Trips doesn't want to do DIY either.
01:35 Because he might have eyes for another story currently, as Jey Uso has been in the spotlight
01:40 as of late since his move to Raw.
01:42 Getting involved in the Judgment Day story along with Owen, Zayn and Cody, he's being
01:45 positioned at the top of the Monday Night Raw roster.
01:48 And this is seemingly by design, counter to what some people thought might happen when
01:52 he went to Raw, and fizzle out with no Roman Reigns to be his antagonist.
01:56 Fightful Select is reporting that WWE thought that the Bloodline story they had planned
02:00 for the Summer would launch Jey into single superstardom, and that moving Jey to Raw was
02:05 part of a longer term plan for him, in a heavily featured role that would carry him through
02:10 at least the next two months.
02:12 Hey, WarGames is in two months.
02:14 Probably.
02:15 Wonder if that's what they had in mind.
02:16 It'll be curious to see what Jey gets up to after this story is done, and whether his
02:20 momentum will continue.
02:22 There's a bunch more news today, such as Fastlane plans for that Handicap match, wonder
02:26 what those could be, some hilarious story to Vince McMahon's manic last bit changes
02:30 from Matt Raywald, Dax Harwood and Lance Storm, the TV show Heels being cancelled and more,
02:36 so check out WrestleTalk.com for the latest on everything.
02:59 Match of the year this week comes from GCW's UK show, and as a proud Northwesterner I was
03:04 thrilled to see they were visiting, I couldn't pass it up, so I got all my vaccines and protective
03:08 clothing and visited Liverpool.
03:11 The match in question is for the GCW World Championship, Blake Christian defending against
03:16 the UK's Leon Slater.
03:18 Christian is someone who was sorely underused by the big American companies, not naming
03:23 any names, but they flourished on the independent scene in front of rabid crowds who each sleep
03:28 and breathe wrestling, especially here in the UK, his skill finally being appreciated
03:32 in ways those big companies never could.
03:35 All the fans were screaming his name, just a shame he couldn't understand them.
03:39 And Leon Slater, still a teenager who has been tearing it up all across Britain, getting
03:42 a world title clash in a show this important to GCW was a thrill to see.
03:47 Back and forth action that spilled into the ringside area, Christian underestimating his
03:51 young opponent as the pair traded near falls that had the scouts cheering, which was nice
03:56 as there is objectively nothing to cheer for in Liverpool.
03:59 Christian had the upper hand at one point, bending Slater's arm back behind him and
04:03 stamping on it making a sickening crack, it looked amazing.
04:07 A springboard 450 was only enough for a near fall, before Christian missed a rolling kick
04:12 and hit the ref.
04:13 Slater was able to hit a powerbomb and keep the champ down well beyond a three count,
04:17 but with no ref there to make the fall, Christian was able to regain the upper hand and the
04:21 valiant challenger was finally brought down with a cross-faced chicken wing and a stomp
04:26 for the 1-2-3.
04:27 I'll stop you there, let me guess, 20 stars!
04:31 20 stars, eh Mark?
04:34 Don't be ridiculous, Luke.
04:37 25 stars.
04:38 So now my family are from Liverpool, right?
04:43 I'm so sorry.
04:46 It's better than Manchester.
04:50 We'll hopefully have more from Mark in the future, but for now it's time for my
04:53 review of Monday Night Raw, aka the Why Can't Raw Be This Good All The Time edition of Monday
04:59 Night Raw, in about 5 minutes.
05:01 I think it's fair to say that I've been a bit down on Raw in the last few months.
05:05 It's not been a bad show, there hasn't been a bad show since Triple H took over the
05:10 gig, but it's just been fine.
05:13 Nothing bad, but nothing spectacular.
05:15 Some good wrestling, some good promos, some decent angles, but nothing outstanding.
05:19 It's been on cruise control since Summerslam, not helped by the fact that the top guy in
05:24 this brand hasn't had a storyline since his one with Brock ended.
05:27 But this week felt different.
05:29 I can't quite put my finger on it.
05:31 It had the same main event we've seen a thousand times over, but there was a different
05:36 feeling in the air.
05:37 Maybe it's the merger being done, maybe it's a brand looking to come out swinging
05:41 after negative news of the firings last week.
05:44 Maybe they just had a good week.
05:46 Maybe it was just the crowd.
05:48 But for whatever reason, this show ruled.
05:51 Cody opened things and made references to the building being sold out - take that AEW
05:55 - and that we're no longer in the bottom of the third.
05:58 Take that Paul Heyman.
05:59 The Judgment Day came out and it led to a brawl between them, Cody, Sami Zayn, Kevin
06:03 Owens and Jey Uso.
06:06 The twist here this time is that Damian Priest didn't want to do the brawl, but the group
06:10 were convinced to do so by J.D. McDonough.
06:12 Priest freaked out at J.D. backstage and told him he's not in the group and needed some
06:16 time to cool down before the main event.
06:19 Big Bronson Reed beat Otis in a Beefy Men Slapping Meat match, which had all of those
06:23 meat chants that began at All Out a few weeks back, and I'm quite pleased to see that
06:27 that fun chant has travelled.
06:29 In that same icy title picture scene, Tommaso Ciampa beat Ludvig Kaiser after Giovanni Vinci
06:34 accidentally distracted the referee while Kaiser had a clean pin on Tommy Chaps.
06:38 Stop trying to break up Imperium!
06:40 Seth Rollins scolded Kaiser and told him that Vinci is now his problem.
06:46 Why does Triple H have such a boner for dissension within groups?
06:51 After being looked over last week for Natalya, Tegan Nox was set up as a challenger for the
06:54 NXT Women's Championship next week when she beat Natty in a very quick two minute
06:59 match.
07:00 It wasn't quite enough of a showing for Nox to get over after not being on TV for
07:04 months on end, but at least she made it onto TV this week.
07:08 Seth Rollins cut his weekly Totally Fine promo on Shinsuke Nakamura, who responded in the
07:12 same way he always does in a Last Man Standing match was made on Fastlane.
07:16 I give this segment two and a half shrugs out of five.
07:19 Thankfully, what came next more than delivered.
07:23 Dominic Mysterio is a great character.
07:25 The crowd really like to boo him when he's trying to do his promos, and as we saw last
07:30 week you can squash him and he'll still retain that heat.
07:33 It's not what I would do to build a title match, but what do I know.
07:36 I'm just a mere 40 year old man in a suit in a studio in Hackney chatting to you while
07:40 you're watching me on the toilets while you're avoiding your work.
07:43 Dom has come under fire from fans though, for not being all that great in the ring,
07:48 which has been somewhat exposed during this NXT run, but when he needs to turn it on,
07:54 he does.
07:55 Emphatically so.
07:56 And that was on display here, as he and Dragon Lee had an awesome match.
08:00 This was like something you used to get back on Nitro and ECW, the lucha matches you get
08:06 on Dynamite.
08:07 This was spectacular stuff.
08:09 They had a banging NXT TakeOver match on Raw, and it ruled.
08:13 Dom was great, but this match was designed to tell you the audience, Dragon Lee is the
08:18 future of our high flyers who will sell merchandise to kids.
08:22 And it worked.
08:24 He was fantastic, and of course he is, and the crowd were super hot for it too - helped
08:28 by Lee's amazing athleticism and Dom's unchallenged heat.
08:31 A brilliant combination that led to what could be argued as the best thing on this show,
08:37 if it wasn't for two more awesome matches that were still yet to come.
08:40 Nia Jax had a promo that sounded like it was being performed by Speak N Spell, and then
08:44 she squashed Zoey Stark in another two minute match.
08:46 Not a good night for women's wrestling on this three hour broadcast, which sadly has
08:51 become commonplace.
08:52 Headline: Drew McIntyre Is Here!
08:53 Miz TV saw Drew McIntyre as the guest this week, with Miz trying to stir the pot to set
08:57 up a feud between Cody and Drew.
08:59 New Day came out and had a brilliant back and forth with Drew about him not helping
09:02 Jey getting beaten down last week by the Judgment Day, and it tied together several feuds into
09:07 a nice neat collective universe which I really liked and appreciated.
09:11 And Drew's exasperation with New Day's accusations was only heightened by Miz hilariously
09:16 trying to chime in and make himself part of this story.
09:20 Drew took on Kofi in another superb match which had a great finish that again ties feuds
09:26 together.
09:27 Ivar came out and attacked Woods at ringside, but rather than get distracted by that like
09:31 Kofi did, Drew hit the claymore and won the match.
09:34 Because he's not here to save people, he's not Batman, and he walked to the back just
09:38 like he did last week as Ivar laid out Kofi with another spectacular moonsault.
09:43 All of this was great.
09:45 And the main event was an Attitude Era-esque schmoz, and I loved every second of it.
09:49 My favourite curry is a Paneer Tikka Dansak, that with some Bombay Aloo, Poppadoms and
09:54 a little bit of mango chutney on the side although that isn't necessary, and you're
09:58 set to go.
09:59 That for me is a perfect Friday night meal.
10:01 But if I was given that meal, not just every Friday, but every day of the week, I'd probably
10:06 lose some of my love for it.
10:08 Still delicious, don't get me wrong, but variety is the spice of life, no pun intended.
10:12 That's Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens vs. The Judgment Day.
10:14 Are the matches always good?
10:16 Yeah, but do I need to see this many versions of them?
10:19 No.
10:20 Which is why I think the schmoz-y nature of this one worked so well for me.
10:24 It also gave us a few red herring finishes.
10:26 Will it be Jey that accidentally costs the good guys the straps, or will Jey D get involved
10:31 to try and get himself acclimated into Judgment Day?
10:35 Turns out it was the latter, as Jey D hit Sami with a title belt after a mega brawl
10:39 with Judgment Day Cody and Jey, and Priest pinned Zayn to retain the titles.
10:43 The brawl continued as we continue our journey to Raw Games, which may remind you, is at
10:48 the end of November.
10:50 That said, this was an awesome episode of Raw.
10:53 Not groundbreaking or newsworthy, just a brilliant show.
10:56 Because it wasn't a groundbreaking newsworthy show, I'm not going to give it the full
10:59 five, but this is a high 4 out of 5.
11:02 It's basically a 5.
11:04 4.9 out of 5 if you will.
11:06 But tomorrow sees the launch of the Wednesday Night War, and yesterday Laurie and Dan drafted
11:10 their rosters over on PartsFUNknown, so go and check out who they picked and subscribe
11:14 to PFK for the first livestream, this time tomorrow.
11:18 My name is Dan and I'm here to say, that he's Dan in a cool way.
11:23 His rhymes are fresh and they're super cool.
11:26 I don't know.
11:28 What?
11:29 What a great rhyme.
11:31 (dramatic music)
11:33 (upbeat music)
