00:00 About 9 o'clock this morning Newcastle Police received some calls from numerous members
00:05 of the public in relation to a bulk carrier that was in distress off the coast and we're
00:11 going to deploy two rescue helicopters in tandem to rescue two at a time from the vessel.
00:18 Coming up we'll just go over, we'll just taxi over to the ship.
00:23 Yes sir I'm back.
00:25 I'll just hold here.
00:27 You think the middle? With the windshield?
00:30 That's fine by me, it's not moving any more than the front anyway.
00:33 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
00:37 And you can come down to 15 if you like.
00:40 We can probably land on this.
00:42 Yeah I would not be surprised but there's a lot of rush.
00:45 That comes over, we'll go this far.
00:47 8 o'clock probably.
00:50 Clear to hoist.
00:55 Traffic.
00:57 This is good, hi, this is perfect.
00:59 Just top right please.
01:01 Right one.

01:51 How was the crew?
01:53 Oh it was probably, obviously, well without a shadow of a doubt it was the worst conditions
01:57 we've had to hoist in.
01:59 22 people, you can hardly see the ship now so it was very difficult.
02:05 The wind was gusting up to 60, 80 knots at some times and a lot of sea spray and the
02:12 ship itself had stopped moving around but it was just horrendous.
02:18 It was very hard for the pilot to hold the hover and when we were, the cable was streaming
02:23 back behind the aircraft with the wind gusts up to 30 to 40, 50 feet sometimes.
02:27 And plus we were getting a lot of static electricity from the discharge from the hoist cable.
02:32 So all in all it was probably out of 10, it was a 10 for difficulty I'd say.
02:38 It was very difficult but the result was achieved.
