00:00 Hey everyone, I'm Miguel Cortina with Motor Trend and we're going to tell you how we've

00:05 been charging the all new Rivian R1T in the Transamerica Trail.

00:15 As you can see we're in the middle of this campground.

00:17 This is what you would see at an RV station, an RV park or something.

00:21 It is very common and also will charge your Rivian or any other electric vehicle that

00:26 way too.

00:27 So once you have that plugged in into the wall or in this case a tree, you'll get your

00:32 other end of the charger and simply plug it into the Rivian.

00:37 This comes with the truck.

00:38 This is a cable charger that you can plug into a level 2 outlet.

00:42 So once everything is set, this light bar will come on and will indicate the state of

00:46 the charge.

00:49 So there's basically three types of charger available.

00:52 Level 1 is what you would essentially plug in at home like where you plug in your toaster

00:57 or your refrigerator.

00:58 That is the longest type of charger that it will take for an electric vehicle to get a

01:02 full battery.

01:03 Level 2 is what we're using here.

01:05 That will give you about 25 miles per hour of charge.

01:09 Level 3 is a step above that and that depends on how depleted the battery is at the moment

01:14 that you start charging and how much power the battery can take.

01:18 On a level 3 you probably get about 150 or so miles of range in probably 30 minutes or

01:23 so.

01:24 If you're going to coast on the Transamerica Trail on an EV vehicle, you really have to

01:27 plan your trip.

01:29 In this case we've planned it up from the start from the Atlantic all the way to the

01:33 Pacific.

01:34 So what we've demonstrated is that you can really do the Transamerica Trail with an electric

01:38 vehicle.

01:39 With a little bit of planning you can pretty much charge anywhere you want.

01:42 We're going to let the R1T charge for a little more and I am looking forward to getting back

01:47 on the trail.
