00:00 First of all, they are due here in about five minutes from now.
00:03 This is all regulated extremely carefully to almost a second.
00:10 Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron are due here now to be five minutes earlier
00:16 than King Charles and Camilla at the Arc de Triomphe ready to welcome them.
00:20 And a ceremony will be held to do that.
00:24 There will be the national anthem,
00:27 which will be sung, God Save the King, and also the Marseillaise,
00:31 the French national anthem as well, will be played.
00:33 You can see just behind me there is the Republican Guard,
00:36 which is also waiting to salute the king.
00:39 Once he gets here, there will be a ceremony which will involve
00:43 the lighting of the flame on the tomb of the unknown soldier
00:47 and the laying of a wreath and then a review of the troops,
00:51 after which the red arrows and the Patrouille de France
00:55 will fly over the Arc de Triomphe in unison
01:00 with their red, white and blue smoke coming out of the back.
01:04 That will then be followed by a descent of the Champs-Élysées
01:09 in two different cars back to the Élysées Palace,
01:12 where the king will hold a head to head meeting with Emmanuel Macron
01:17 to discuss pressing issues, pressing international issues,
01:21 probably the war in Ukraine, probably global warming.
01:25 And I would imagine also the migrant question,
01:28 which has affected the relations between France and Britain
01:32 over recent months.
01:34 But also there will be a time for them to discuss
01:39 Franco-British relations more generally.
01:41 So that is what is happening this afternoon.
01:44 But it doesn't just end there, because then King Charles
01:46 will be taken to the Palace of Versailles, west of Paris,
01:50 about 30 kilometers away, where there will be a dinner tonight
01:54 in the Salon des Glaces or the Glass Hallway,
01:59 which is a magnificent room overlooking the gardens of Versailles.
02:03 Versailles built by Louis XIV, the French king Louis XIV,
02:06 in the 18th century, and to which King Charles
02:11 has been invited tonight with Camilla for a state dinner.
