Mayor of Bury St Edmunds, councillor Diane Hind, talks about the Bury Free Press Community Awards 2023.

00:00 why are the community awards important to you? Well as Mayor and Councillor I get to

00:05 see first-hand the role of volunteers in the community and I'm always amazed by

00:11 their selfless devotion and commitment to whatever cause it is and just it's

00:19 just fabulous to be able to honour them I think. How do you feel about the work

00:23 individuals and groups do to help the community? Well their dedication and commitment are

00:29 immense and yeah they are the glue which holds the society together and

00:37 connects all the other agencies and I really don't know where we'd be without

00:41 them but I think as well but everybody benefits both the person giving and the

00:48 person receiving the support they enhance each other's physical and mental

00:52 well-being and I'm just glad we have these people there that you know make

00:57 life better for us all. Okay lastly what would you like to say to tonight's finalists?

01:02 Well basically you all deserve to have a trophy but sadly there can only be one

01:09 winner but I'm looking forward to meeting and talking to you all tonight

01:13 and really just trying to hear what motivates you and if there's anything

01:18 else I can do as the Mayor or the Town Council can do or my fellow Town

01:23 counsellors we would be very happy to do it.
