00:00 We've all been using smartphones for years, with the iPhone no doubt being the best-selling
00:04 device ever made.
00:05 However, now a French watchdog agency has announced that the iPhone 12 releases too
00:10 much radiation.
00:11 The group, called the ANFR, measured the smartphone's specific absorption rate, or SAR, finding
00:16 that it was above the legal threshold in the country.
00:19 The phone has been on sale around the globe since 2020, but it was only now noticed.
00:23 The iPhone 12 will now be discontinued for sale within France.
00:26 However, the country's economic minister says a simple software update should fix the issue.
00:31 The European Union has set strict limits on the SAR value of cell phones over fears that
00:36 exposure could lead to increased cancer risks, meaning the French findings could soon lead
00:40 to massive iPhone 12 sales halts on the continent.
00:44 France in particular requires companies to mark their products with explicit radiation
00:48 values, allowing consumers to know how much exposure they can expect.
00:51 If you are concerned about your iPhone, regulators say this was likely due to a recent sample
00:56 software update and should be fixed soon.
