Tamworth Public School Year 3 student Issac Munro has penned an award-winning poem to claim the school's first win  in the Dorothea Mackellar Poetry competition in 15 years. September 1, 2023.

00:00 I come from country. I come from Anawun country, a land of cool rivers and many trees, from

00:13 a place of art and artefacts from Ceramic Break Sculpture Park, and my dad's art and

00:19 sculpture and artefacts from a land of the Bulbul and Lion Bird and Womba the Wombat,

00:25 Waraba the Turtle and Nure the Black Snake. I come from Anawun people, from the Anawun

00:32 Bigamilla Echidna Totem, my family Gili Gala Totem and my personal totem, Bandar the Kangaroo.

00:40 Now I live on Gamilaraay land, a land of grassland and memories, gum trees and wattle trees,

00:46 mistletoe and currajong, a bubbling creek on the Yindoo Warrawi Trail, the bungees and

00:53 the grinding stone. I come from crashing storms, the beautiful flashing Moori lightning and

01:00 rumbling Thulamay thunder, followed by the Yalowiri rainbow. I come from the Pearl River

01:06 spinning Tamworth, bushwalking by the sparkling river through morning glory secret tunnels,

01:13 home of the Gugugaga Kukamara, Barangamuru Mangpai and the soaring Malian Eagle. I come

01:21 from river dry and the drought, the water filling in the dry cracks, making streams

01:29 in the gullies giving the land water and life. I come from clapsticks, didgeridoo and dance,

01:36 from Dinnawan in the sky, a long stretched emu protecting me, my family and everyone.

01:43 I come from country, the elders and my family, it makes me feel joyful and strong.
