Cagayan fisherfolk, farmers lose income due to super typhoon

Flooding in many areas in Cagayan due to typhoon goring has subsided. But residents still feel the effects of the storm.   Daniza Fernandez has this report. 00:07 They say they have nothing else left to do but to just wait until they can harvest and

00:13 Farmers lament the thousands of pesos worth of their damaged crops.

00:17 They spent money for seeds, fertilizers and more, but Goring's strong winds knocked down

00:22 their crops.

00:23 "It hurts inside because you want to experience that you will get something, but suddenly

00:33 you don't."

00:34 "We harvested a lot of corn, but we lost a lot of corn.

00:37 That's how the times are.

00:39 We are looking for a budget, but we are not getting anything."

00:45 Fishers meanwhile were not able to catch fish for five days already because of the no-sale

00:50 policy.

00:51 Farmers were compelled to find other sources of income while they are yet to be allowed

00:55 to venture out at sea.

01:05 It's sad.

01:07 We lost 500 fish in one day."

01:15 We are not doing anything.

01:16 We are just waiting for the right time to go out."

01:20 The local disaster officer of Santa Ana says agriculture is the sector most affected by

01:26 Goring.

01:27 Aside from agriculture, Goring has not inflicted any major damage in Santa Ana.

01:32 "Actually, our rivers rose, but it did not become a threat to the houses in low-lying

01:43 areas."

01:45 As of Wednesday, three individuals in Gagayan were hurt while 7,306 families or around 24,000

01:52 individuals were affected by Goring.
