Iconic Sussex view under threat for Haywards Heath residents

Graham Hunt says the view from his house will be ruined by new homes which have been proposed for the green-field land at Haywards Heath

00:00 Hello, I'm Graham Hunt. I live on the top end of Hurstwood Lane, Haywards Heath.

00:08 This is the south east corner of Haywards Heath and this is a field as part of the Hurst Farm project

00:18 which is being developed by Homes England.

00:22 Mid Sussex District Council sold all this land to Homes England on the basis of it being countryside

00:30 and not for housing development.

00:33 They're now proposing to put 70 houses over our fence here so we lose the view which extends all the way to the Downs

00:44 to where Victoria's trees are. Built in 1878, 3060 trees at a cost of £12.10 at that time

00:58 and we will be obliterated from us.

01:03 On the right here is ancient woodland which runs down the entirety of Hurstwood Lane.

01:18 and the trees overhang the Hurstwood Lane where they're proposing to put additional traffic

01:26 and construction traffic and will be a nightmare for the trees, for the people

01:33 and when you get to the bottom of Hurstwood Lane they now propose to put the school at the bottom of Hurstwood Lane

01:40 in the most dangerous position for 500 5 to 11 year old children attending the primary school.
