00:02 >> We have to make sure everybody's available every single day here for
00:06 us to get to wherever we're gonna go.
00:08 And that wasn't the case, and as a manager, I gotta take charge of this,
00:13 and I decided he wasn't gonna play.
00:15 >> Is there something that happened before?
00:17 >> I decided he's not gonna play.
00:18 >> Was he late for company?
00:19 >> I decided he's not gonna play.
00:21 >> Is it accurate to say that?
00:23 >> I'm just taking care of the 26 guys, and he wasn't gonna play.
00:26 >> Is it accurate to say that it's for disciplinary reasons why he wasn't?
00:29 >> The manager's decision, yeah.
00:30 >> What did you see off the bat?
00:32 >> Off the bat, everybody thought he was gone, even the pitcher.
00:36 Everybody did, the pitcher too.
00:37 He started walking off the mound with the head down.
00:41 >> You say you took his back as a team?
00:44 >> We have to be available, everybody has to be available.
00:46 For us to do this, we have to be available.
00:48 From coaches to players, to analysts, to the front office,
00:52 everybody has to be available every single day here.
00:55 That's the bottom line.
00:57 And today, one guy wasn't available.
01:00 >> So it's painfully obvious, you don't have to be a surgeon to figure out that
01:06 Verdugo never showed up for his job.
01:08 And it's happened over the years with several ballplayers,
01:12 hundreds of times, you don't show up, you do not play.
01:16 And then he wouldn't throw him under the bus by saying he was late, but
01:20 everyone that knows anything in Boston about what happened knows he didn't show
01:25 up for work.
01:25 >> Correct, obviously this is Boston, so
01:28 there's a lot of people that cover the team on a daily basis.
01:33 This isn't Kansas City, there's several beat reporters for the Red Sox.
01:38 So of course, they're gonna run to Verdugo and find out what's going on.
01:42 So apparently, allegedly,
01:44 players are supposed to be there four hours before first pitch.
01:48 And Verdugo got there two hours before first pitch.
01:52 So that was what apparently was the sticking point with him not being
01:56 available to play that way.
01:57 >> Well, I don't know about that, because that to me sounds lame.
02:03 Because if I'm there two hours before first pitch, I'm there early.
02:08 And if it's four hours is the rule and you're there two hours before,
02:12 to me that's just absolute, I hate your guts, cheesy.
02:17 Like the teacher giving you, you gotta go to detention in summer school,
02:22 cuz you were two hours after you were supposed to be there four hours, but
02:26 the game starts two hours later.
02:28 I don't like that math.
02:29 So I think it's ridiculous with a star player to do that.
02:33 Frankly, I would have busted his ass if he showed up five minutes before the game,
02:36 not two hours before the game.
02:38 I don't care if he takes batting practice, puts his uniform on, or drinks.
02:43 If he's there two hours before it starts, I don't really have a problem with it.
02:47 Obviously, Cora and the Red Sox do have a problem with it, but
02:52 they had him out of the lineup and what did it get them?
02:54 They lost.
02:55 What a shame.
02:57 >> What I was gonna say to you the whole entire situation, what a shame,
03:00 it really was.
