00:00 We, the women of Kisumu, from various parts of the country,
00:05 that were largely affected by the demonstrations,
00:08 namely from Humaniaca, Mpungwa-Nyawicha, Kondele-Nyalenda,
00:12 Bandani and Nyamasaria, have called for protest
00:16 against the excessive police violence against our children,
00:23 sons, women, girls, husbands, and mothers.
00:26 The police committed violence right inside our homes,
00:30 resulting in untold suffering,
00:32 leaving our children there injured and others traumatized.
00:36 We have gone through many targeted police brutality,
00:39 rape and human rights violations from 2007, 2008,
00:45 2013, 2017, where no action has been taken.
00:51 However, this round, the intention to kill was visible
00:55 in the action when they refused to come to our assistance as women,
01:00 audible through the words like,
01:01 "Nyone kama utapati kana la mwanamuke,
01:05 sisi atuja punya ucheza."
01:09 We were confronted by guns pointed at our heads,
01:11 arrows ready to be released,
01:13 tear gas emptied in our houses where we sought shelter.
01:18 Running out of the house because of the tear gas
01:21 was making untold pain, untold beatings.
01:24 We watched them break into our shops,
01:27 take and eat our sleeping food,
01:29 break our plates in our kiosks,
01:32 steal our money and business items.
01:35 This time, there was no shame in the Flanda murder.
01:39 It did not matter that you are innocent,
01:42 and there were as many people hurt who were not protesters
01:48 as there were those who protested.
01:51 The police put violence on the streets in our homes.
01:55 Our sons were burnt from their houses,
01:57 beaten and later accused of demonstrating
01:59 even when they beat the evidence,
02:01 showed another thing.
02:03 In one instance, even the money in the sleeping bag
02:06 of one of our tribe in her house,
02:09 stealing and eating our little food
02:12 and destroying what was left.
02:14 Mr. President, how can we report to any police
02:18 when we realize that our own president
02:21 didn't support the action of our children being beaten,
02:23 being killed, our husbands being murdered and killed?
02:28 We as women being threatened,
02:30 tear gas as we watch our hustle business being destroyed.
02:34 You say that they did a good job.
02:36 Hate speech against the local community
02:39 has turned us into those people.
02:41 And every action that we witnessed from the police
02:44 was intended to harm us.
02:47 Mr. President, are we not Kenyans?
02:50 Are we also not human beings like others?
02:53 Are we enemies in our own country?
02:56 And like any other Kenyan, don't we deserve dignity?
03:00 What Kenyans are living in our lives are nothing.
03:04 Is there a law that says women, our children,
03:07 our husband, fathers and daughters in this region
03:11 do not deserve protection, have no purpose,
03:14 do not belong in this country?
03:16 Are we the bottom up always we talk about?
03:20 As a commander in chief,
03:21 you showed your true intention against us
03:24 by allowing the police to abuse their power
03:27 and cause pain to honorable Kindiki.
03:31 Every election year,
03:33 the solo border conflict becomes an issue.
03:37 We are killed daily during election.
03:40 Our cattle stolen in broad daylight.
03:44 We cannot even keep chicken.
03:46 This time, it was no different.
03:48 The police took insert in this conflict
03:51 where we were attacked right in our homes
03:54 with the tigers, bolts and arrows.
03:56 The police response, nothing.
03:59 In fact, they joined hands with the militia,
04:03 transporting them in police cars,
04:05 supporting them while they destroy our small businesses,
04:08 breaking down our doors,
04:10 shooting us with arrows, cutting people up.
04:13 We scream for help to stop the beatings.
04:15 The police just watch and did nothing
04:18 because they say,
04:19 "Since we are to shibuliki in our territory,
04:21 nahi siyokanti yetu."
04:25 So people died right before our eyes
04:28 and they are taken to hospital.
04:30 They said militia wanted to break into the hospital.
04:33 Wama lize tas.
04:35 We are tired of this conflict in Sondhu
04:37 that leaves us in pain.
