Transcript
00:00 We grew up in Bathurst.
00:05 Was a wonderful place to live.
00:11 The river was a joy for us really, as little children.
00:22 In 1964, there was an incident that happened that changed my life.
00:31 The river had flooded many times before, but this was the worst flood.
00:37 My memories are of waking in the night and we got out in a boat.
00:43 It's just an awful experience.
00:47 I think that's why I've had a fear of the water ever since.
00:55 Not swimming has held me back from a lot throughout the years.
01:00 Our children were taught to swim very early on, but that was part of their life that I
01:05 couldn't enjoy with them.
01:12 I'm 70 years old now.
01:14 If I'm ever going to do it, I have to do it now.
01:23 I think it will be like the weight of the world dropping off my shoulders.
01:31 I'm going to conquer it.
01:32 I am.
01:33 It'll be a good thing.
01:35 I'm going to do it.
01:36 I'm going to do it.
01:37 I'm going to do it.
01:37 I'm going to do it.
