Hot and stormy weather persists across the Northeast

As the heat continues to build across the Northeast, rounds of severe weather will renew the flash flooding threat from New York to New England.

00:05 Even spots like Philadelphia

00:07 excessive heat warning so the

00:09 heat is no joke and it's only

00:11 going to get hotter as we head

00:14 into our Friday Friday afternoon.

00:17 The real field temperatures.

00:19 New York City, Boston 100 to 105.

00:21 Meanwhile in Philadelphia,

00:23 you're accurate.

00:24 The real field temperature 105 to 110

00:26 degrees for Friday afternoon,

00:28 so these are the numbers you should

00:31 plan for and dress for if you did

00:33 want to be outside as we head

00:36 into our Friday afternoon.

00:37 But there is some change in the air.

00:40 We're tracking a cold front moving on

00:42 through cooler weather returns behind

00:44 that lower humidity returns behind that.

00:45 That means the nights the mornings

00:47 are going to feel really good,

00:49 and the afternoons we won't be

00:51 dealing with this intense heat,

00:52 but there is something between the

00:54 intense heat and the cool down,

00:56 and it comes in the form of

00:58 thunderstorms. Some of those could

00:59 be strong to severe Pittsburgh,

01:01 Scranton, Boston,

01:01 flooding downpours and localized

01:03 damaging wind are the main threats.

01:04 Winds could be as strong as 60 to 70

01:07 miles per hour. Accuweather local

01:08 storm max up to 80 miles per hour,

01:11 so this will cause travel

01:12 disruptions for Saturday.

01:13 Any outdoor plan Sunday would be the

01:15 better day of the two over the weekend

01:17 because it will be drier and temperatures

01:19 won't be nearly as hot like in New York City.

01:22 92 on Saturday,

01:23 but then we drop to the 80s by

01:25 the time we head into Sunday.

01:27 If you like the way that pattern

01:28 is trending for the weekend,

01:30 then early next week you're going to

01:32 enjoy it too as cooler and less

01:33 humid air sticks around.
