Flash flood threat to persist across the Northeast

AccuWeather meteorologists say more moisture-packed storms will take aim at the Northeast late this week and into this weekend.

00:00 Well, it has been wet, wet,

00:01 wet over the last 30 days.

00:03 I want to show you the 30 day rainfall.

00:06 It's color coded this map.

00:07 Now when you see the light green is

00:09 where you're looking at rainfall above normal.

00:11 The dark green is where you've seen

00:13 at least two to three times your

00:15 normal amount of rain in a 30 day period.

00:18 So if you think about this in that dark

00:20 green you're looking at two to three

00:23 months worth of rain and a lot of

00:25 that fell in the last two weeks.

00:27 That's why we've been dealing

00:28 with flash flooding.

00:29 So far, July in Albany 9.41 inches rain.

00:32 By the way, that is number 2 second

00:35 wettest July of all time only behind

00:37 2009 where we had 9.91 and I think

00:40 we're going to get a half inch of

00:42 rain with our next system Thursday

00:44 night into Friday won't be today.

00:46 Frontal boundary moving east.

00:47 We do have a system that brought

00:50 some heavier rain down across

00:51 the Delmarva Peninsula.

00:52 That's going to exit and then

00:54 thunderstorms are going to be

00:55 pushing South behind that later

00:57 this afternoon and tonight.

00:58 So the severe weather risk really

01:00 down in the eastern parts of North

01:02 Carolina and eastern Virginia.

01:03 I think for much of the flooded areas

01:06 from southeastern Pennsylvania

01:07 and New England, I don't think

01:08 we're looking at much rain.

01:10 If at any rain as we go through today.

01:13 Now temperatures it's going to be humid,

01:15 but because the clouds not as hot as we've

01:18 seen widespread 80s so kind of typical,

01:20 if not a little bit below normal

01:22 for mid July standards.

01:23 Alright, here's our next upper level

01:25 low north and West of Bismarck.

01:27 That is going to bring our next cold front.

01:30 That'll be Thursday night in the Friday.

01:32 Will start getting the rains from West to

01:35 East late Wednesday late Thursday.

01:36 I should say in western parts of

01:38 New York State in Pennsylvania.

01:40 Then the frontal boundary arrives on Friday.

01:43 And again, I think we're looking at some

01:46 areas of drenching thunderstorms,

01:48 especially in that dark area.

01:50 That does include Philadelphia,

01:51 New York City and up into the flooded

01:54 areas in eastern New York State.

01:56 New York State or the saturated ground.

01:59 I should say eastern New York State,

02:01 Vermont, New Hampshire,

02:02 Western Connecticut and

02:04 Western Massachusetts as well.

02:05 So again, we're worried about the flooding

02:08 resuming in these areas,

02:09 especially in the dark green where

02:12 the ground is already so saturated.
