Filipino pool masters Johann Chua and James Aranas getting the Senate's attention!

Senator Jinggoy Estrada has filed a resolution seeking to congratulate and commend the duo for their historic championship run in the 2023 World Cup of Pool this July in Lugo, Spain. Aranas and Chua ousted Germany in the finals, 11-racks-to-7, to give the Philippines a record fourth title in the tournament.

The two snapped the country's 10-year championship drought and became just the third Filipino tandem to ever win the prestigious tilt. The two will try to extend their winning run in the International 9-ball Open which started July 24 in Quezon City.

Let's go all out in this story with Shark Billiard League head organizer Hadley Mariano, and international pool player Fedor Gorst.

00:00 Cool Masters, Yoan Chua and James Ananas getting the Senate's attention, Senator Jingo Estrada's
00:04 Fally Resolution seeking to congratulate and commend the duo for their historic championship
00:08 run in the 2023 World Cup of Fool this July in Lugo, Spain. Ananas and Chua ousted Germany
00:14 in the finals 11-7 to give the Philippines a record fourth title in the tournament. The two
00:20 snapped the country's 10-year championship drought and became just the third Filipino tandem to ever
00:24 win the prestigious tote. The two will try to extend their winning run in the international
00:29 nine ball open which started July 24th in Quezon City. Let's go all out on this event with Shark
00:34 Billiard League head organizer Hadley Magliano and joining us surprise guest Fedor Gorst,
00:40 number one player in Russia, 13 in the world, correct? Correct, correct. Good evening, thank
00:45 you for being here. Hi, good evening. Thank you. Hello, thank you for being here. I know it was
00:50 the last minute but you're here. First of all, thank you for being here on the show. I know
00:56 you're supposed to be with a lot but at least you're here. Let's talk about this event. So,
01:00 let's talk about the... John Polliado and Ladau, sorry. And you should have two more, Ananas.
01:12 Okay. We know when it comes to billiards, Efren Batares, Diango Bustamante, Philippines is one
01:18 of... Do you agree? You're nodding. Yeah, I agree. One of the best when it comes to... How did this
01:26 Sharks Billiard League help developing future billiard players? Actually, it's been 10 years
01:34 since the last international tournament in Philippines. Wow, 10 years? 10 years. Wow,
01:38 that long? That long. But considering we're world champions, it's surprising that there's no
01:45 tournament here in the Philippines. Why? Basically, there's no support. We don't have support from
01:52 private companies or private individuals as well as government. So, we're trying to jumpstart the
02:00 sport once again. And Fedor Gors is here because? Of the international tournament. And how are you
02:06 liking it so far? How's everything with the international tournament? You know, it's my
02:11 second time here in Philippines. I've been here last month also with Sharks and now I'm here
02:16 because it's a ranking event. It's the first time I think it's a matrim ranking event in Philippines.
02:22 It's a big thing. So, of course, I had to come and play here. And then, what can you say about
02:28 the Sharks trying to raise the level of Philippine billiards? Yeah, they're trying to raise the bar
02:35 and trying to grow the game in Philippines. And it's great for all the local players because they
02:41 can actually put their names on the map and show what they're worth. Hadley, aside from our local
02:50 stars, of course, you have an event that started on July 24 until the 29th, correct? Yeah. And then,
02:55 aside from the local stars, what else can the people, of course, the billiards fans,
03:00 look forward to here? Actually, Sharks is trying to put billiards in the collegiate level.
03:08 Oh, really? Yeah, we are trying to build it so that we can make billiards as a varsity sport
03:14 in schools because we can see it in basketball, soccer, and other sports we have. Yeah, yeah,
03:20 volleyball. But in the Philippines, we produced what they call Michael Jordan of the sport,
03:28 Efren Bata. But sadly, we were left behind in other countries. So, that's the goal of Sharks.
03:36 It's to... What about grassroots? Grassroots, yes. Let's start with that. I'm sure in Russia,
03:41 like that also, they start young. I wish we had more time, but I apologize because we have another
03:48 show coming up. But thank you for being on the show. Hopefully, you come back. Bring more players.
03:51 Yeah, I will. Bring a pool table, too. Let's play pool. Thank you, Hadley. Thank you. Thank you,
03:56 Fedor Gors. Great meeting you. Russia's number one player in billiards and also the 13th in the world,
04:01 Fedor Gors, and also Sharks Billiard League Head Organizer, Hadley Magliano.
