00:02 - Okay, so back to the NFL we go.
00:05 Mike, I thought that the sports betting stories
00:08 were at least over for the time being
00:09 with players getting caught betting on the NFL,
00:12 but the Broncos now find themselves in a similar position
00:16 as their defensive end has been caught
00:19 betting on games last year.
00:20 - Yeah, Craig, again, 10th player this year, I believe,
00:25 suspended by the NFL for gambling.
00:27 Olazareke, you know, fourth round pick, played a little bit
00:30 last year, again, you think a second year for him
00:32 potentially can make a jump, get more time on the field,
00:35 but now having to sit out minimum one year here
00:37 for betting on NFL games.
00:39 Craig, as you know, the NFL continues to be hampered by this.
00:43 You'd like them to say at some point,
00:45 yeah, we're done with cases from last season,
00:46 because again, that's what these cases are.
00:48 A lot of it was players betting on non-NFL games
00:51 at the practice facility, and this is that worst case,
00:53 right, this is what the NFL just doesn't want guys
00:55 betting on, the NFL itself.
00:58 We don't know if he bet on the Broncos games
00:59 or he bet on other teams, but either way,
01:01 it's a no-no in the NFL, so it's gonna cost him
01:03 at least one year and cost him money
01:06 and potentially playing time, and who knows long-term
01:09 what the ramifications are just for him,
01:11 but again, for the league, you know,
01:12 with all these sports book partnerships
01:14 and people wondering, you know, how is this possible
01:16 the league could take this gambling money
01:17 and for these integrity issues to keep arising,
01:20 you know, just really bad news.
01:21 And again, you hope at some point the NFL says,
01:24 okay, we're done with 2022, you know,
01:25 we've got these education programs in place.
01:27 The players know, you cannot bet on the NFL,
01:29 you can't bet at work, you know,
01:31 these are easy things to know.
01:33 No player should be taking this risk, it's stupid,
01:37 you know, for this kid to, at 25, you know,
01:39 to be in this spot.
01:41 If you're not a star, you know, we saw Calvin Ridley,
01:43 we've seen stars get hit with this.
01:44 Calvin Ridley's back with another team, you know,
01:46 we'll have an opportunity, but if you're a fringe player,
01:48 this is just stupid.
01:49 I mean, no matter who you are,
01:50 whether you're the wide receivers coach, you know,
01:52 Miles Austin got hit with the Jets,
01:53 who knows what his ambitions were.
01:55 Now he's got that stain on his resume.
01:56 So yeah, I mean, you just, you don't want to see this stuff
01:59 and hopefully the NFL can clean this up.
02:01 And, you know, eventually these cases from 22 go away
02:03 and we can move on.
02:04 But again, it's unfortunate for the league
02:06 to continue to have to deal with this.
02:08 And it's just a bad look, it's bad optics.
02:10 There's just no, you know, two ways about it.
02:12 It's not good.
