The YP's rugby league writer James O'Brien looks ahead to Round 20 of Super League 2023 including the clashes between Huddersfield and Hull FC, Hull KR v Castleford, St Helens v Leeds Rhinos and Wakefield v Warrington
Transcript
00:00 After two epic Challenge Cup semifinals and enthralling Super League season resumes this
00:10 weekend, some exciting games to look forward to as well. It starts off Thursday night,
00:15 Huddersfield Giants host Hull FC, resurgent Hull FC who are just two points off the playoffs
00:20 now. They're looking a good bet to make a late run for the top six against Huddersfield
00:26 who have won a couple in a row. You'd have to say that Huddersfield have to win this
00:30 game if they have any chance of reaching the playoffs. They're a real outside bet as it
00:35 is but if they lose this weekend they can probably forget about it. But if they win
00:38 and keep going another week, you never know. They've got that game in hand as well, albeit
00:43 against Saints away. But they are finding form at the right time. They're looking more
00:48 like the team that finished third last season. It's probably too late for the playoffs but
00:51 you never know. Like I say, another win this weekend and the sides will start looking over
00:56 the shoulder at Huddersfield. Friday night, Leeds go into St Helens. You never know what
01:03 you're going to get from Leeds. They lost in Golden Point in their last game against
01:07 Hull KR at home but they have beat Saints away this season. They've beaten Wigan away
01:11 this season so it wouldn't be unlike Leeds to go to the totally wicked stadium and pick
01:17 up a win against the odds. Same night, Hull KR host Castleford. Hull KR are on a massive
01:24 high after beating Wigan in a second Golden Point win in a row. You'd think they may not
01:33 be emotionally spent but that's going to catch up with them eventually and the fatigue obviously
01:37 from going through a real bruising game like that in atrocious conditions, again, that's
01:43 going to take its toll at some point. It's a very good opportunity for Cass to go there
01:48 and pick up what will be a vital win. They've been boosted by the arrival of several players
01:54 since the last played. A couple of those might be in action at Craven Park on Friday night.
01:58 So it's a real chance. Hull KR have got one eye on Wembley. Cass, if they're going to
02:02 pick up many points in the running, this has got to be again the target. Then on Sunday,
02:08 you've got Wakey hosting Warrington. Again, a good opportunity at home. Wembley have won
02:13 the last three games for Trinity. If Cass slip up to pull level with Cass, Warrington,
02:19 obviously they're fading away. They're going to come good at some point. They're going
02:23 to win a few games at some point but it's a very good opportunity for Wakey, looking
02:27 at the remaining games, to pick up a win this weekend and really boost their hopes.
02:33 So yeah, it's all to play for in Super League. It should be a good one.
