Stuart Broad admitted his “addiction” to Test cricket has carried him to 600 wickets, a prestigious milestone he savoured even more after reaching it at the end named after his teammate James Anderson.

The pair are great friends, long-time opening bowling partners and now the only non-spinners to have got to the landmark, which has only been attained by three other people in history.

Broad’s moment came just after tea on day one of the fourth Ashes Test at Emirates Old Trafford, when Travis Head injudiciously hooked a bumper and Joe Root gobbled up a low catch in the deep.

00:00 I've definitely got an addiction to test match cricket and an addiction to the competitive
00:04 side of it and ultimately Baz and Stokesy have given me a new lease of life in a way.
00:14 It's such a free changing room. It does feel in the nicest possible way that you're playing
00:21 club cricket but you are doing it at the highest level and that's such a great place to be
00:27 as a 37-year-old because you're turning up each day with it being really fun, really
00:33 enjoyable. There's no fear of failure there, there's no judgement and it's all about taking
00:39 the game forward and moving the game forward and I think that suits my style of play as
00:42 a cricketer. I owe a lot in the last 14 months to the way Baz and Stokesy have brought energy
00:49 to the group and I think I've been able to match that energy and move myself forward
