PBBM inaugurates new LRT train sets
Transcript
00:00 In keeping with his campaign promise on improved transportation,
00:03 the chief executive graced the inauguration of the new train sets of the Light Rail Transit Line 1.
00:09 Almost four decades in existence, LRT Line 1 still proves to be a dependable mode of transportation,
00:15 especially now with its fourth generation light rail vehicles.
00:19 Kenneth Paciente has more of the story.
00:22 Faster travel is what the passengers of the LRT Line 1 can expect this month.
00:29 This after a series of safety checks and trial runs,
00:32 fourth generation light rail vehicles or LRVs will now be open for commercial runs.
00:38 It is the latest addition to the existing three generation of train sets running along the main line of LRT 1.
00:44 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the inauguration ceremony of the LRVs.
00:49 He also rode and inspected the new train sets.
00:52 The chief executive said, "This is in fulfillment of the government's commitment
00:56 in providing a modern and efficient railway transport system to commuters."
01:01 In my first State of the Nation address, I emphasized the integral role of infrastructure development,
01:07 such as the construction of farm to market roads,
01:10 improvement of our railway systems in our social and economic progress.
01:15 It truly makes me proud to witness the steady realization of our vision of a more developed Philippines
01:22 coming into fruition through our new LRVs which will be used in the existing LRT 1 system
01:29 and on the LRT 1 extension to Cavite.
01:35 I recognize, of course, the hard work that has been done by the Department of Transportation,
01:40 the Light Rail Transit Authority, and the Light Rail Manila Corporation
01:45 for working together to provide the Filipino people
01:48 with a safe, reliable, and efficient transportation service.
01:53 President Marcos Jr. is also confident of the relief and convenience this will bring to commuters every day.
01:59 He also said that the government will continue to improve the state of public transportation in the country
02:04 to increase and expand mobility.
02:06 We will be able to now aid in easing traffic congestion
02:10 as well as mitigating air pollution caused by vehicles plying the roads of Metro Manila.
02:18 Equipped with advanced passenger information systems and a new signaling system,
02:24 I am confident that the LRVs will not only improve the overall passenger experience,
02:29 but also will be championing safety.
02:33 The flagship infrastructure project is expected to service up to 800,000 passengers a day
02:40 and shorten the travel time between Baclaran, Pasay City, and Bacol from 1 hour and 10 minutes to 25 minutes.
02:49 These new train sets have a total capacity of 1,388 passengers each trip
02:55 with a maximum design speeds of up to 70 km/h.
02:59 Starting July 20, the LRT-1 will deploy one Gen 4 train set
03:04 and one new Gen 4 train set to its mainline every week until December.
03:08 These features will substantially improve operational efficiency
03:12 so that passenger waiting time between train sets will be reduced to less than 3 minutes.
03:19 24th generation train sets have been delivered
03:22 while the remaining 10 train sets are expected to arrive between November and February of next year.
03:27 Complete deployment of the 30 train sets is expected on 4th quarter of 2024.
03:33 Kenneth, Paciente, for the Nation.
