00:00 giving a dog a second chance is the bottom line when you're going to adopt.
00:03 Dogs Trust Manchester has almost 40 dogs waiting to find their forever homes.
00:09 The charity's Denton location sits on an industrial site,
00:13 where many four-legged friends await their brand new families.
00:17 Each of these dogs requires extra love and attention,
00:20 and all will make amazing companions given the right environment.
00:24 And Dogs Trust Manchester works hard to find them the perfect fit.
00:28 We went down for a tour of the facility and met some furry friends up for adoption.
00:32 Even though we've come out of Covid, a lot of dogs that were puppies in Covid
00:36 that are still struggling because of what they missed out on during that period. So
00:42 a lot of socialising, a lot of meeting other dogs, going to places, travelling in a car,
00:47 particularly being left. We're still seeing a few dogs coming in with those issues,
00:52 but then on top of that now obviously people are really struggling
00:56 financially. So we've seen a lot more people who just can't financially look after the dog
01:01 or they're losing their homes. There's still so many places that won't accept
01:05 pets when you're renting. Veterinary fees and insurance fees have gone up by at least 10%,
01:12 so people are struggling. We will always have dogs waiting to come in, but it's never been
01:18 at the level that it currently is now. And obviously because people are being
01:23 sensible financially, you know, rehoming is down in general. But it's not just us,
01:28 I think it's charities throughout the country, whatever. It's not just dogs, it's cats,
01:33 it's rabbits, it's everything I think. Sadly we're just a crisis on so many levels throughout
01:40 the country I think. The charity rehomes hundreds of dogs a year just from this location in Denton,
01:47 and currently there are 38 gorgeous canines ready to find their forever homes.
01:51 For those who are looking to adopt, Dogs Trust has an important application process to find
01:56 out which family or individual is the right fit for each dog. Dogs Trust Manchester, if you google
02:02 that, it will bring you directly to our website. And then you can see all the dogs that are
02:07 available for rehoming. Read the bio, read what we call the website profile, that will tell you
02:13 everything you need to know about what kind of home they're looking for. And if you think that
02:19 you know you're in a good position, everything you read suits, then you know give us a call,
02:24 apply online, come down to the centre when we're open because we want to get these guys out. They
02:31 all deserve a home and there's a home out there for them, we just need to match them up. Do your
02:35 homework, do your homework on that, the breed that you're looking for. Don't let your heart
02:40 rule your head. Make sure that you are ready to commit, you know, they're a lifelong commitment.
02:46 An average dog can live 12 to 15 years, just make sure that you're ready to take on such a large
02:52 commitment and then you will have a best friend for life, without a doubt.
