Namely, as reported by the Russian media, the Aerospace Forces of the VKS of the Russian Federation have begun to modernize the Tu-95MS strategic bomber into the MSM version.
The Russian media reports that the modernization refers primarily to increasing the combat capability of this bomber.
One of the significant changes on this aircraft, in addition to new avionics and engines, is the integration of four additional underwing pylons for carrying cruise missiles.
Previously, Tu-95MS bombers could carry a total of 4 H-101 or H-102 cruise missiles.
As the portal "Bulgarian Military" writes, these missiles can be equipped with a conventional warhead marked H-101 or a nuclear warhead marked H-102.
After modernization, Tu-95MSM bombers will be able to carry two additional missiles under each of their wings, namely eight missiles of the H-101 or H-102 type.
Military experts point out that this is one of the few modernizations of this time bomber, primarily in terms of external payload. Most likely, the Russian special military operation in Ukraine is the reason why the Ministry of Defense of Russia decided on such a modernization.
