According to a statement from NHTSA,
fuel efficiency will increase by 8%
in 2024 and 2025, then by 10% in 2026. .
In the statement, Transportation Secretary
Pete Buttigieg said that the new set of standards
will help save Americans money. .

while also reducing emissions and pollution. .
'Newsweek' reports that vehicles on highways, release nearly 1.6 billion tons of greenhouse gases, into the atmosphere every year. .
According to the U.S. Department of Energy,
a single gallon of gas creates about
20 pounds of carbon dioxide. .
The NHTSA statement said the new standards would reduce carbon emissions by 2.5 billion metric tons. .
They will also help Americans get
33% more miles per gallon in 2026. .
