Matt Wright, veteran, expert hunter and custom knife maker and survival skills instructor has a unique perspective on adapting and thriving in any environment. He has tested his approach by hurling himself-often with little advance notice-into some of the most extreme environments on the planet. Documented on the Discovery Channel’s Naked and Afraid, Naked and Afraid XL, and Shark Week, Matt’s positive persistence elevates everyone in his environment. He does not seek out the leadership role but in a short period of time, he finds himself appointed to the leadership role by the group. Whether it be a new job, new role, new company, or a new country, entering and thriving in a novel environment requires fearless determination, sincerity, an eagerness to help achieve the goal.

Background:

Thrive in Every Environment with Matt Wright: Teacher - Entrepreneur - Survivalist

Matt Wright’s entrepreneurial spirit began at an early age. Having traveled the country from Alaska to Florida hunting big game, he had both highly developed skills and a zeal for adventure. His positivity and determination led him to begin his business. At first, it was more of a “side hustle” as a professional big game hunting guide to earn a bit of cash. He recognized the need for specialized equipment to navigate the wilds he traversed. An idea was formed, and the development of various knives and outdoor gear prototypes began. Of course, Matt field-tested his efforts, and the “side hustle” expanded to include survival equipment.

A desire to serve his country led Matt to join the U.S. Air Force which provided time to deepen his earnestness, fearlessness, and perseverance. An injury prompted Matt’s separation from the Air Force. Upon returning to Colorado, he resurrected his “side hustle” while continuing to accept other jobs. He honed his knife making skills and continued to develop other specialized equipment. Matt credits meeting and marrying Brooke Benham with changing his focus; he began to recognize the potential of his business and with Brooke at his side, Extreme Instinct, LLC became a full-time operation providing primitive wilderness survival training, guide for big game hunting, and custom knives and equipment.
