In 1917, Ex-President Teddy Roosevelt was staying at the Long Island village of Oyster Bay, New York. At the time Woodrow Wilson was president. And World War I was raging on. In this short news reel, he is seen calling on Oyster Bay neighbors during Christmas in 1917. The Roosevelts had been spending time in Oyster Bay since 1874. Oyster Bay would frequently seen as a backdrop and stage for many of his ambitions. 20 Sagamore Hill Drive in Oyster Bay was the primary residence for the Roosevelts from 1886 and for the rest of their lives. Sagamore served as the "Summer White House" during the seven summers he was in office (1902–1908). Sagamore Hill is now a National Historic Site.
