DOH: PH COVID-19 cases now at 13,597

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines have increased by 163, the Department of Health (DOH) said, taking the total of confirmed cases to 13,597 as of 4 p.m. of Friday (May 22).

Eleven new fatalities bring the country’s COVID-19 death toll to 857, the DOH said, while 92 more patients have recovered, raising the number of recoveries to 3,092.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said that 4,893,186 people across the globe have contracted the illness, including 323,256 deaths.

She also reported that six new healthcare workers in the country were found positive for COVID-19, bringing the number of cases among healthcare workers to 2,336. Of this number, 1,086 have recovered. The death toll remains at 31.
