Andy Sheehan is an investigative and enterprise reporter for KDKA-TV, a CBS-owned television station in Pittsburgh, PA. Andy has covered a wide variety of subjects during his 37 years as a reporter, mostly regarding social problems, criminal justice, education, and the environment. His stories have often uncovered unnecessary waste and corruption, many times becoming a catalyst for change in policies and laws.
Andy Sheehan was born in Red Bank, New Jersey. He graduated from Columbia University in the City of New York in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature/Letters.
At the beginning of his career, Andy Sheehan worked for the Daily Register in Red Bank, New Jersey before becoming a reporter for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. At the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, he covered city hall, the police, politics, business, and economic development. During his time there, Andy developed an extensive network of sources and contacts. He also earned a reputation as an outstanding reporter and writer.
In 1992, Andy Sheehan started his work for KDKA-TV. During his tenure there, Andy has covered a plethora of stories, but none more tragic than the mass shooting at the Tree Life Synagogue on October 27, 2018. This horrific event claimed 11 lives and took place only 300 yards from Andy’s home in Squirrel Hill. Although the events of that day were atrocious, Andy says his neighborhood has become closer and stronger as a result.
Andy Sheehan has been the recipient of several awards, including an Emmy in 2010 for his report “Help for Haiti.” He has also received an Edward R. Murrow award from the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), a Gabriel, a Pennsylvania Broadcaster Association award, and a Golden Quill Award.
In addition to being a successful investigator and reporter, Andy Sheehan is a published author and editor. His book, Chasing the Hawk: Looking for My Father, Finding Myself, is a memoir focusing on his relationship with his father. His father, Dr. Sheehan, was a renowned runner and cardiologist, as well as a New York Times bestselling author. After his father passed away, Andy collected pieces of his writing, which became the book The Essential Sheehan: A Lifetime of Running Wisdom. The Essential Sheehan was published in 2013.
