육군, 간부 선발에 'AI 면접체계' 도입한다

The nation's military has introduced a revolutionary way of selecting its officers: an AI interviewer.
After a trial period, the army aims to utilize the system in the selection of all officers by 2022.
Kan Hyeong-woo explains further.
The South Korean Army's new Artificial Intelligence system is designed to choose outstanding personnel for leadership posts.
The interview with the AI software should take less than an hour.
As long as there's a computer with an Internet connection, a webcam and a microphone,... applicants can go ahead with the online interview anywhere and anytime.
The applicant gets an email containing instructions and a link.
The interview starts with a self introduction.
After that,... based on their occupational speciality,... they play about five different games... like finding a specific pattern on the side of a cube or guessing how many times they can click a balloon on the screen before it pops.
In the last step,... they're asked situational questions and about their personality.
Then the AI analyzes their performance based not only on their answers but also their facial expressions, voices and heartbeats.
As a project under the Defense Ministry's smart innovation plans for the fourth industrial revolution,... the new AI interview system is undergoing a trial period from this month.
Some ten-thousand commissioned and non-commissioned officers will be put up for the computer-based interview process to test out its reliability and the resulting data will be compared with scores from traditional face-to-face interviews.
The Army aims to set up the AI interview system by 2022 for all officers, but it says the final decision will be made by expert interviewers who can analyze each applicant's patriotism and reliability in terms of security.
