Volkswagen Sets Record for January Sales The German automaker set a new sales record for January with global deliveries increasing 10 percent over the same period in 2017. The good news can be attributed to two things: China and SUVs. Sales in China jumped nearly 16 percent over the previous year to 398,600. Audi , which is under the Volkswagen umbrella, saw sales in China rise a whopping 73 percent in January. As for SUVs, the Volkswagen brand sold over 30,000 Tiguans in China last month. The improved numbers come as Volkswagen tries to distance itself from the diesel emissions scandal.
