Divers Clear Litter From Aquarium, Testing Plans to Tackle Marine Debris

Divers at Sea World on the Gold Coast collected rubbish placed in an aquarium on Thursday, February 1, as practice ahead of a 365-day plan to tackle marine debris.The cleaning effort will be the longest continual marine debris data survey ever attempted and will target south-east Queensland waterways, including Wavebreak Island and the southwest wall of South Stradbroke Island, a Sea World spokesperson said.“Today the Sea World divers joined the Environmental Divers to conduct a mock clean-up at Shark Bay’s Tropical Reef Pool where both teams honed their skills in debris collecting, sorting and data entry updates," Sea World Marine Sciences director Trevor Long said in a press statement.
