The medical condition known as carpal tunnel syndrome is due to compression of the median nerve as it travels through the wrist at the carpal tunnel. The main symptoms are pain, numbness, and tingling, in the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and the thumb side of the ring fingers. Symptoms typically start gradually and during the night. Weak grip strength may occur and after a long period of time the muscles at the base of the thumb may waste away. In more than half of cases both sides are affected.
The primary risk factors for carpal tunnel syndrome include obesity, repetitive wrist work, pregnancy, and rheumatoid arthritis. There is some evidence that diabetes plays a role. Types of work that are associated include computer work, work with vibrating tools, and work that requires a strong grip. Diagnosis is suspected based on signs, symptoms, and specific physical tests and may be confirmed with electro-diagnostic tests like the EMG.
About 5% of people in the United States have carpal tunnel syndrome. It usually begins in adulthood and women are more commonly affected than men. Up to 23% of people may improve without specific treatment over approximately one year.
When your doctor recommends brace therapy for carpal tunnel syndrome, you should use the effective treatment called “Enhanced Brace Therapy”. It starts with the Carpal-Rx -- a specially designed traction wrist brace that eases the pressure in your carpal tunnel. You wear the Carpal-Rx Traction Wrist Brace during the day, while you work. As you wear it, it opens up and widens your carpal tunnel and relieves the pressure on your median nerve. Then at night, you wear the Micro-Soft Carpal Tunnel Brace -- designed specifically for carpal tunnel syndrome (and not conditions like arthritis, sprain, broken wrist, etc.). Together, night bracing and daily traction give you “Carpal-Rx Enhanced Brace Therapy” -- the best remedy available to cure your symptoms and get rid of carpal tunnel syndrome quickly and effectively.
