Babies apparently cry more in the UK than in Germany

If you're thinking about having a baby in Britain, Canada, Italy or the Netherlands, you might want to get earplugs first. A new research study has found that babies in those four countries cry more than in most other countries, while babies in Denmark, Germany and Japan cry less. The purpose of the study was to find out how much babies cry in the first three months by measuring colic levels, or how long a baby cries a day and how often. The study, which tested 8,700 babies, found that on average, babies cry two hours a day in the first two weeks before peaking at around two hours and fifteen minutes at six weeks old. "We may learn more from looking at cultures where there is less crying -- (including) whether this may be due to parenting or other factors relating to pregnancy experiences or genetics."
