‘The Longest Minute – The real story of the North Queensland Cowboys. A Debase, JUTE and Queensland Theatre Co-commission. After an initial research process in 2016, development of the script and production design will happen in 2017 with a view to a co-production and regional tour in early 2018.

Robert Kronk will collaborate with Nadine McDonald-Dowd in the writing of the work.

It is anticipated that the final project will tour extensively in regional Queensland connecting with local football clubs and potentially including young Indigenous football players in each community as part of the show.

In September 2015, the North Queensland Cowboys and the Brisbane Broncos met in one of the most extraordinary games of rugby league ever played. It had everything – suspense, last minute plot twists, despair and eventual redemption for the Cowboys, who won their first ever premiership. But all that was just the tip of the iceberg for a team with a tumultuous history of heartbreaking losses, near-bankruptcy, conspiracy theories, and permanent outsider status … Based on true stories of football, fandom and life in Far North Queensland, The Longest Minute is a story of a community and its quest for identity – and football glory.
