THE NEST [ A hood dramatic series ]
The Nest is set within the gritty street culture of inner-city America. Far more than a crime show, by using larger universal themes that explore the human condition, The Nest rises beyond the framework of a gangster glory story as a vehicle for making statements about the ailing condition of American social order. The Nest goes beyond crime-drama. Visually the series is the next generation in what will become classic American television as a show that was filmed using hand-held equipment in a hyper-realistic style. In addition to the optics, The Nest argues for something more dynamic by using trained actors and non-actors for authentically compelling results. Nothing happens on the screen that doesn’t happen on the streets of Los Angeles everyday and the show utilizes local Los Angeles street personalities for story-lines and technical assistance. As Law and Order SVU is to Police melodrama, so should The Nest be to any presentation of inner-city life. No mere exercise in realism, the microcosm that is The Nest exists to serve something much larger in terms of hope, survival and redemption. The pilot episode begins with a straight forward violent drug crime that sets in motion a descent into the beginning of the end for the characters. Between the police, the gangs, the streets, the justice system and the innocent ones caught in the middle, we see an America at war with itself on every level. It is through the lens of The Nest that viewers can glimpse how opportunities for redemption can serve as the pathway to honorable social order.
