Men’s Lacrosse Game
Lacrosse is a sport played using a stick with a net on the end, called a crosse, which consists of usually a separate metal or wooden shaft, connected to the "head" of the crosse. The object of the game is to toss a rubber ball into the goal. Lacrosse can be played outdoors or indoors. Outdoors it is played on a field of grass or artificial turf. Indoors it can be played on turf. Also played indoor is Box lacrosse, played on covered or melted ice hockey rinks.
In men's lacrosse, players wear protective equipment on their heads, shoulders, arms, and hands, as body-checking is an integral part of the game, and stick checks to the stick are legal. Each team is composed of 10 players on the field at a time: three attackmen, three midfielders, three defenders and one goaltender. Women's lacrosse is played in a similar manner except with two additional midfielders per team. Players of women's lacrosse (in the United States only) need only wear protective eyewear and mouthguards (except for the goaltender, who wears additional padding, usually consisting of a throat protector attached to the helmet, and chest pad, most goalies do not wear arm pads or shin pads), as contact is not permitted. In woman's lacrosse the lacrosse stick is separated into two parts, the top is called the head and the handle is called a shaft. Once outside the crease the goalie is the same as any other player.
Lacrosse is quite similar to the Irish sport of Hurling except in Hurling players use a stick made of Ash and no padding is worn.
