Hey, welcome back to moviequips highlights. I'm Stephen Bourne and here are your new movie highlights for April 1st to the 7th:
First up, ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING is a UK sci-fi comedy directed by Monty Python alumnus Terry Jones, starring Simon Pegg. In a bizarre experiment on humans, aliens endow an unassuming English school teacher with God-like powers. Absolutely Anything screens here for a limited run at Ottawa's Mayfair Theatre.
ACROSS THE LINE is a Canadian drama from debuting feature director Director X, starring Toronto's Stephan James. Here, a young Nova Scotian groomed for NHL greatness risks being sidelined when racial tensions erupt at his high school. Across The Line screens here as part of the Canadian Indie Film Series at Landmark Cinemas Kanata.
Also from Canada, BORN TO BE BLUE is a biopic loosely based on the tumultuous life of iconic American Jazz musician Chet Baker. Ethan Hawke stars as Baker, whose rising stardom in the 1960s was almost ended by a vicious beating and drug addiction. Born To Be Blue debuts here at Ottawa's ByTowne Cinema.
Melissa Joan Hart stars in GOD'S NOT DEAD 2, the sequel of returning director Harold Cronk's 2014 drama, God's Not Dead. This time, a small town high school history teacher is dragged into court for citing Jesus Christ in class. God's Not Dead 2 screens at Cineplex SilverCity Gloucester and at both Landmark Cinemas here in Ottawa.
KI AND KA is a Bollywood romantic comedy from writer-director R. Balki, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Arjun Kapoor. To the chagrin of many, the marriage of a high-powered executive and her happy house-husband turns India's traditional gender roles upside-down. Ki And Ka screen here with English subtitles at Landmark Cinemas Kanata and Cineplex Cinemas Ottawa.
And lastly, STANDBY is a 2014 Irish romantic comedy starring Brian Gleeson, from debuting feature directing duo Rob and Ronan Burke. Grounded by life, a chance encounter with an old flame sparks hope for a part-time Dublin Airport tourism clerk. Standby screens at the Arts Court Theatre as part of the second annual Irish Film Festival Ottawa.
