The Australian writer and winner of the 2014 Man Booker Prize, Richard Flanagan speaks to Eve Jackson about turning his father’s experiences in a Japanese prisoner of war camp into a novel, writing five drafts over 12 years and asking his father’s ex-captor to hit him. The author is in Paris as his highly acclaimed novel "The Narrow Road to the Deep North" hits French bookshelves.
