Colombia: Guerrilla Leader Says US Policies Generate Violence

TeleSUR interviewed FARC leader Timoleon "Timochenco" Jimenez, who said that the birth of the guerrilla movement was due to the violence throughout the country. He said that what the United States did in 1948 was a mistake, a reference to its role in the Organization of American States, the assassination of Colombian liberal leader Jorge Eliecer Gaitan and the imposition of a security doctrine in Colombia that is still in all the instruments of power, generating violence. The guerrilla has been the answer to that violence, he said. Timochenco also holds the Colombian government responsible for its refusal to free the prisoners of war. teleSUR
