Peru: Officials Hail Arrest of Suspected Shining Path Leaders

Two suspected commanders of the armed guerrilla group Shining Path captured a few days ago in southern Peru were transferred to the capital city of Lima on Monday. The commanders were identified as Alexander Alarcon Soto, also known as Comrade Renan, and Dionisio Ramos, also known as Comrade Yuri. After the capture of top leader Abimael Guzman in 1992, the rebels decreased their activity significantly. Officials hailed the recent arrest but said victory cannot be declared as yet. teleSUR
