Ecuador: Galapagos Airport First to Run Entirely on Green Energy

Off the coast of Ecuador’s mainland, the Galapagos Islands are now home to the world’s first airport to run solely on solar and wind energy, with up to 80% of the renovated structure consisting of reused and recycled materials. Known for their unique biodiversity, the Islands were recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1978. They are also famous for being the place where naturalist and geologist Charles Darwin developed his theory of evolution in the nineteenth century. teleSUR
