00:00Thousands of Argentinians rioted on Wednesday in front of the National Congress to express
00:05their rejection of the package of laws approved by the Senate.
00:08Police responded to the demonstration with a large security operation that included repression
00:12and arbitrary arrests against those who were exercising their right to express themselves.
00:16Our correspondent in Buenos Aires, Santiago Rey, has all the details.
00:21More than 30 Argentinians suffered the attack that the government is carrying out against
00:26social protests.
00:28In this case in the context of the rejection of the law of bases, one of them is Santiago
00:33Adano, arrested without being part of any riot in front of Congress.
00:38We are offering our support.
00:42It is the way we found to try to untangle this unjust situation of our friend, who went
00:49to demonstrate and was arbitrarily arrested and remains unjustly detained, a person very
00:53much loved by his family and friends, always looking for ways to help others, with clear
01:01ideas, with a heart to help others and for everyone who knows him.
01:08This musician, who was dragged and suffocated by dozens of police officers, was arbitrarily
01:14and violently arrested as part of the government's plan that seeks to criminalize any expression
01:19of opposition.
01:23He was arrested, he was coming out of the subway to get his car that was parked outside
01:27the Congress.
01:28It is unfortunate.
01:31At this moment they are bidding a case against him, which is absolutely unfair.
01:38We are really worried because this is supposed to be a democracy.
01:41We have every right to express our opinions.
01:46In a statement, the government talked about an alleged coup attempt and the prosecutor
01:51Carlos Stornelli requested preventive detention for all those arrested, among them young students.
01:58Sasha is 24 years old, she is a student from the school center.
02:01We are members of the MST, we went to demonstrate in a very peaceful way.
02:06We never tried to make any kind of disturbance.
02:08It's crazy.
02:09We have to condemn, denounce and make this more and more massive because we can't allow
02:13these things to continue or allow the government to keep violating people's rights.
02:18The police infiltrated, as they always do.
02:21They infiltrate people in the demonstration to generate disturbance and in this way justify
02:26a larger scale repression and detain people who are not involved in any violent act.
02:31It is a tactic.
02:33We have been saying it since this government took office, that in order to try and pass
02:38the adjustments, to implement the surrender, the looting, the submission of our people,
02:44they have to resort to repression.
02:46And that's what they are doing, and that's what they are trying to do, in order to intimidate
02:50those who go out for their right.
02:53Everybody demands the immediate release of all detainees, while requesting that the conditions
02:57of tolerance and free expression be guaranteed in order to be able to demonstrate within
03:02a basic framework of democratic coexistence.
