Real Madrid football club have sacked coach Carlo Ancelotti after failing to win major silverware this season.

Despite leading the Spanish club to their 10th European Cup last season, this year they were knocked out by Juventus in the Champions League semi-finals, and pipped by rivals Barcelona to La Liga.

Real Madrid’s President Florentino Perez
said the decision to sack Ancelotti had not been an easy one:

“Obviously we have analysed this from all possible angles, but as I said, this position is not easy and neither is that of my colleagues from the board of directors. So if we are aware that we need a new impulse , we are responsible for finding it .”

Real did win the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup this season but Ancelotti’s failure to win any of the three trophies that make up the traditional treble (The Champions League
