Convict To Face Charges For Cold Case ‘Gypsy Hill’ Murders

DNA evidence has linked a man serving time in Oregon with the 40-year-old ‘Gypsy Hill murders’.

In 1976, five women in the San Francisco area were raped and killed, but authorities were unable solve to what has became known as the ‘Gypsy Hill murders’.

Finally, DNA evidence has linked a man serving time in Oregon to two of those victims.

Rodney Halbower, 66, has been extradited to San Mateo, Calfornia to face trial in the nearly 40-year-old case.

The San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney said of finding the man, "I think it's significant for a couple of reasons, one certainly for the families of these two young women who were killed so early in their young lives…Number two, I think it's a testament to what modern science can do for us."

An investigation into several unsolved murders in San Mateo County was reopened last March to determine if any were related to one that occurred in Nevada.
