Volvo Car Group has announced their new global marketing plan, which includes selling vehicles to customers online.

Other car companies like General Motors and electric car company Tesla Motors also have their vehicles available for buyers online.

Volvo is a Swedish-based company that is now owned by Chinese car company Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, simply referred to as Geely.

Volvo’s online sales are currently available to customers in the United States but they reportedly have plans to include other countries and eventually all models.

Alain Visser, Volvo's senior vice president of marketing, sales, and customer service, is quoted as saying: "For decades, car marketing has been following a certain pattern which is followed by the entire car industry. Now, Volvo Cars chooses to defy that logic and implement a strategy that is geared toward its own needs."

Volvo launched their digital commerce initiative in September selling over 19 hundred of the Special Editions XC90 crossover SUV.

Customers can take a virtual test drive of the XC90 using the DIY Google Cardboard headset.

As part of their new marketing plan, Volvo officials said they will be scaling back on international car shows, and will attend only three in each major region a year, including Asia, Europe, and the United States.
