New car sales have risen in Europe by 6.2 percent on two years ago as big makes such as Volkswagen and BMW revealed greater demand in some key markets.

Passenger-car registrations in the European Union and the countries of the European Free Trade Area increased to 1.113 million vehicles last month, from 1.047 million a year earlier, according to the Association of European Car makers.
