There lay a casket covered in crimson
Of a fallen hero as masses gathered in unison
He was the carpenter's son the nation's savior
Who fell as the bullet rounds splattered in a caper
There lay a crouching figure beside her bed
The cancer ward the gulag of innocence's bled
Pacifying the delicate toddler strained in life's cruelty
Waiting for god to offer heaven's eternal indemnity
There lay a lass in life's merciless disposition
A victim in disarray in infidelity's corrosion
Wedded life contaminated with the advent of sexual rust
As tears partially cleanse hurt's contaminating dust
There lay a teenager in love's very first conquest
As a defining answer barricaded his burgeoning quest
The first cut the deepest in the young ventricles of his heart
An awakening for a cavalier in his next adventure to chart
Not forgotten are the eternal fighters who quietly fight disability
Even gallant soldiers who conquer mental illness's invisibility
As society forgets the marginalized in their hibernating corners
For fate to intervene for a helping hand for society's forgotten mourners
There are many who battle the predicament of loss
There are those whose fate hangs from life's cruel coin toss
There are still warriors of the heart who rally their inner beauty
For a reawakening of life armed with faith's impunity
