White House alert as man breaches security

A security breach led to an evacuation of the White House on Friday evening.

Staff and journalists were ordered off the compound after a man climbed over a fence and ran for several seconds towards the executive mansion.

The incident happened shortly after President Barack Obama and his daughters had departed to Camp David for the weekend.

After around half an hour staff were allowed back on to the complex.
