French police are investigating a recent attack on a Saudi prince‘s convoy. The vehicles carrying the prince and his entourage were robbed when the motorcade was traveling just outside Paris.

There were reportedly 5 to 8 suspects in two different vehicles. The incident occurred at roughly 9 P.M. on Sunday.

The attackers used their own cars to force the convoy to stop along one of the city’s main routes. They reportedly held rifles and ended up stealing over $330,000 along with sensitive documents that belong to the Saudi embassy.

The suspects hijacked one of the vehicles in the motorcade and took three occupants hostage. Later, they released the driver, bodyguard and an unnamed official on the side of the road.

The Mercedes vehicle was eventually found; abandoned and burned. The suspects did not fire their weapons during the robbery and fortunately nobody was injured.

No arrests have yet been made, but prosecutors think the crime may have been an ‘inside job’ as the individuals seemed to know the motorcade’s route beforehand.

A police source commented “"We have to establish whether it was the money or documents that were targeted.”
